NEC allocates Rs. 14.22 Crore for development projects in Tripura


In a significant boost to infrastructure and economic development in Tripura, the North Eastern Council (NEC) has sanctioned a total of Rs. 14.22 crore for a range of development initiatives across the state. The funds—amounting to Rs. 4,22,64,365—will support projects in key sectors including agriculture, tourism, industry, human resource development, transport, science and technology, irrigation, water management, and the preservation of cultural heritage.

According to NEC officials, the projects are designed to promote inclusive growth and improve the quality of life across various districts of Tripura. Among the key allocations: Rs. 10.71 lakh has been sanctioned for setting up pig breeding farms in Hawai Bari (Teliamura Subdivision, Khowai district) and Jelepha (South Tripura district). A Key Identified Service Delivery Project in Ganganagar R.D. Block (Dhalai district) will receive Rs. 1.10 crore, while another Rs. 1.54 crore is allocated for development in Raishyabari R.D. Block. To boost fisheries, Rs. 1 crore has been approved for pond excavation and renovation of minor water bodies. Rs. 2 crore will go towards establishing six Integrated Seed Processing Plants to aid local farmers. Rs. 3 crore has been earmarked for developing infrastructure in two modern agricultural markets. An Integrated Pack House in Dhalai district will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 80 lakh. The state’s poultry sector will benefit from Rs. 1.51 crore allocated for the construction of brooder houses and hatcheries. In the education sector, Rs. 30 lakh has been set aside for the construction of a new building at Vivekananda Tripureshwari Vidya Mandir.

Additional funding has been allotted for a variety of initiatives, including: Workshops on Geographical Indication (GI) products,  An international chemistry conference, A health economics winter school, Installation of solar-powered irrigation pumps in government-run orchid gardens.

The NEC emphasized that timely disbursement of funds will be ensured to facilitate the smooth and effective implementation of these projects. These initiatives are part of the Council’s broader commitment to fostering the socio-economic development of India’s North Eastern Region, with particular focus on sustainable growth, agricultural modernization, and cultural preservation.

The NEC has long played a vital role in supporting infrastructure and policy initiatives in Tripura and other northeastern states, acting as a key driver for integrated regional development.
