CM Dr Manik Saha announces 49-km Ring Road around Agartala Under Bharatmala Project

Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Friday announced the construction of a 49-kilometer-long ring road around Agartala city under the Centre’s flagship Bharatmala Project, aimed at decongesting traffic and boosting regional connectivity.

Addressing a seminar organized by the Indian Building Congress (IBC) at Pragya Bhavan, titled 'Infrastructure Development in North East Region of India', the Chief Minister highlighted infrastructure as a vital pillar for the state’s economic growth and improved quality of life.

“Modern infrastructure enhances productivity, accelerates economic activities, and directly improves the standard of living. The government is committed to building state-of-the-art facilities for the people,” Dr. Saha said.

The Chief Minister also announced that over Rs 7,000 crore has been allocated in the state budget this year for infrastructure development, reflecting the government's priority to fast-track connectivity, logistics, and public amenities.

He stressed the importance of engineers and architects in building resilient infrastructure, noting that their innovative thinking plays a pivotal role in modern development.

Given the Northeast's vulnerability to seismic activity, the Chief Minister emphasized that advanced construction technologies are being used in all major projects. A prominent example is the high-rise government office building currently under construction in Gurkhabasti, designed to withstand earthquakes.

Dr. Saha recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of the Northeastern states as "Ashta Lakshmi", symbolizing eight forms of prosperity. He credited the Act East Policy with accelerating growth in the region and reiterated the state government’s commitment to inclusive development under the PM’s guidance.

During the event, the Chief Minister also unveiled a souvenir and the official technical journal of the Indian Building Congress.
