Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Thursday attended a symposium held at Tripura Legislative Assembly ion AIDS awareness and said that the Tripura government has adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards AIDS and substance abuse.
Tripura AIDS Control Society jointly with the State Health Department has organised the symposium, where the Chief Minister emphasized the need to further spread awareness about HIV/AIDS, especially among the youth. He urged elected representatives, MPs, and parents to play a proactive role in encouraging young people to participate in sports, cultural activities, and social initiatives, which can help keep them away from destructive habits.
“AIDS is a deadly disease. The state government is taking all possible steps to prevent its spread,” said Dr. Saha. He also mentioned that rigorous screening processes are in place for both blood donation and transfusion to ensure safety. “To successfully fight this disease, public representatives must rise above politics and work together,” he added.
Several MLAs participated in the symposium. Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratanlal Nath, Youth and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Speaker of the Assembly Biswabandhu Sen, MLAs Rampada Jamatia, Sudip Roy Barman, Gopal Roy, and Birjit Sinha were among the key speakers who proposed various measures to the Legislative Forum for reducing HIV/AIDS prevalence in the state.
Dr. Chinmoyee Das, ADG of CST & IT and NSCO, delivered an in-depth presentation on the spread and prevention of HIV/AIDS. Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, delivered the welcome address.
During the event, the Chief Minister also launched 15 new IEC (Information, Education & Communication) materials in Bengali, Kokborok, and English, developed by the Tripura AIDS Control Society to boost awareness across communities.
Dignitaries, including Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, Cooperation Minister Sukla Charan Noatia, Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Paul, Government Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy, and Tripura DGP Anurag were present in the symposium.
