Under acute pressure of the security forces and out of their hardships over surviving in the jungle, at least four insurgents of outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (Biswamohan Debbarma) and two collaborators surrendered before the police with arms and ammunitions on Friday.

Police said that they surrendered one AK-47 rifle and two magazines, two pistols with three magazines and a note book containing extortion notices.

The four armed NLFT-BM insurgents are identified as Umesh Kolai aka Uklai (42), Fanijoy Reang alias Sathukri aka Athukri (39), Victor Jamatia (47) alias Halam and Uttam Kishore Jamatia (42) alias Usha of Khupuilong, while the rest 2 collaborators were identified as Surjya Kishore Jamatia (60) and Brajendra Reang (60).

According to the police, all the six insurgents armed with weapons and ammunitions entered into the land of Tripura from Bangladesh hideout through Ganganagar in Dhalai district on July 21 last for the purpose of kidnapping and extortion.

They moved in the jungle areas of Ganganagar in Dhalai district, Mungiakami in Khowai district and Ompi in Gomati district.

However, the intelligence department sensing their movement inside the state, carried out special operations by Tripura State Rifles and the police. The pressure exerted by the security forces made the militants surrender before the police, official said.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that NLFT has been facing hardships and their survival in their hideouts in the state has become difficult due to the continuous pressure of the security forces.

All the surrendered militants and their collaborators were handed over to the special branch of state police for joint interrogation, police said.
