Special aircraft boarding NDRF team lands in Agartala to tackle cyclone ‘Sitrang’


While the Tripura government is on high alert with the influence of the cyclone ‘Sitrang’, a team comprising of over 70 highly trained NDRF force Monday landed here at Agartala MBB airport on an emergency basis to dela with the cyclone, which is likely to turn worse here in the state. Soon after the IMD predicted heavy rain and thunderstorm in the state of Tripura and also in view of the possibilities of heavy influence of the cyclone ‘Sitrang’, the administration took series of measures with the District Magistrates of the eight districts of the state are asked to alert the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), fire services and trained volunteers to remain ready to tackle any situation.

While the government cancelled all leaves of the employees for this week, operation of all ATR flights in Agartala on October 24 are cancelled and Northeast Frontier Railway cancelled the special Diwali train for two days following the warning of storm and heavy rainfall for next 48 hrs across the state with the effect of super cyclone Sitrang. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday chaired a high-level review meeting with the officials of all the line departments here at the secretariat and discussed the measures taken and also passed necessary instructions to administration. The government however declared a holiday for all academic institutions till October 26 next and advised people not to come out from home unless an emergency occurs if a cyclone hits Tripura severely.
