Agartala Town Hall to be renamed after Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, announces CM Manik Saha

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday announced that the Agartala Town Hall will be renamed in honor of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. A statue of the late leader will also be installed at the premises as a tribute to his enduring legacy.
The announcement came during an event organized by the Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Department at Muktadhara Auditorium, marking the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Mukherjee a prominent figure in India’s political and educational history.
Paying tribute, Chief Minister Dr. Saha hailed Dr. Mukherjee as a towering personality who played a pivotal role in safeguarding India's sovereignty after independence. “With remarkable intellect, prestige, and unwavering dedication, Dr. Mukherjee devoted his life to nation-building, never choosing a self-centered path,” the Chief Minister said.
Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee served as India’s first Industry Minister, Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University, Mayor of Calcutta, President of the Hindu Mahasabha, and was the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the ideological forerunner of the present-day Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“On this special occasion, I am pleased to announce that Agartala Town Hall will be renamed in his honor, and a marble statue will be erected to commemorate his contributions to the nation,” Dr. Saha stated.
The renaming of the Town Hall and the installation of the statue are intended not just as symbolic gestures, but as a reminder of Dr. Mukherjee’s legacy and his tireless efforts toward building a strong and united India.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, officials, and members of the public, who joined in paying homage to one of India's most respected national leaders.
