BSF seizes Ganja worth over Rs. 2 crore; 3 including king pin held


In a major haul, the troops of the Border Security Force seized ganja worth over Rs. 2 crore and detained three drug peddlers including the kingpin in connection.

The BSF in its press communique on Monday stated, “In the wee hours, a specific Intelligence input was received indicating the stocking of a huge consignment of Ganja in a house. Acting on the said tip-off, a   joint Ops was planned and carried out in the house of a suspected person of village Urabari, PO- Barakathal, PS-Sidhai, Dist- West Tripura, and he was apprehended on the spot.”

“During preliminary cross-examination, he revealed the name of the main King-Pin resident of PO & PS- Sidhai, Dist- West Tripura & other associates. The tip further led to the search of their houses, and Ganja was recovered,” it stated.

According to the BSF, a total worth Rs 2,07,75,000 weighing 1385 Kgs of ganja was recovered clandestinely hidden underground in their houses where all three Indian nationals including the king pin were apprehended.

It stated, “It is pertinent to mention that the BSF Tripura is committed to thwarting the attempts being made by trans-border criminals/smugglers by taking all possible proactive measures and is frequently confiscating huge quantities of contraband giving big jolts to trans-border smugglers, particularly Narcotics/drug traffickers during 'Anti-Smuggling Drives' in the Tripura State. This also prevents the youth of Tripura state getting easy access to narcotics.”
