Tripura Poll: Oppositions held joint rally to voice against ‘Regin of Terror’

The opposition political parties in Tripura jointly under the banner of ‘Secular Democratic Forces’ with Indian national Flag on hand held a mass rally here at Agartala on Saturday to meet in deputation with the Chief Electoral Officer seeking stringent actions against the reign of terror let loose allegedly by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

The leader of opposition Manik Sarkar, CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Choudhury and other Left leaders jointly with the leaders of the Congress party including PCC president Birjit Sinha, former MLA Ashish Saha, MLA Sudip Roy Barman, AICC leader and party’s state in-charge Dr. Ajay Kumar and others walked on the rally, which moved across the capital town of Agartala to lead a mass deputation in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer giving voice to the slogan of “My Vote My Right”.

The leader of opposition Manik Sarkar said, “At a time when the Election Commission of India is claiming to ensure free and fair election in Tripura, the ruling BJP party goons is throwing a challenge to it by hatching terror tactics across the state with the assembly election drawing near.”

“The main agenda of this Secular Democratic Forces is to raise united voice against the reign of terror prevailing in the state. This is also to protest the terror tactics being hatched by the goons of the BJP party, where large number of congress workers were attacked recently soon after the declaration of the poll schedule, while the CPI(M) party offices were also vandalized and were torched in different parts of the state,” Sarkar told reporters.

He however described the ECI’s action against certain police officers as a silver lining of optimism and hoped that such punitive measures would be taken whenever any dereliction of duty on the end of administration or police come into notice.

A ten-member delegation of different political parties met Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Gitte, District Election Officer Debapriya Bardhan and SP West Tripura Sankar Debnath and submitted the written memorandum from the Secular Democratic Forces.
