Key domestic indices close around 1% up amid positive cues from global share markets


The key domestic indices closed around one percent up amid positive cues from global share markets.

The Sensex surged 690 points or 0.98 percent to close at 71,060 and the Nifty also rose 215 points or 1.01 percent to finish at 21,454.

In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap index rose 1.71 percent and the Small-cap index gained 1.72 percent.

In the Sensex Index, which is a pack of 30 companies, shares of 25 companies appreciated while 6 companies declined. Tata Steel surged 3.88 percent, Power Grid climbed three and half percent and HCL Tech rose 3.44 percent.

On the other hand, ICICI Bank fell 2.94 percent, Axis Bank dipped 2.77 percent and Asian Paint slipped 1.91 percent.

In sectoral indices at the BSE, except the Bankex index which has lost 0.18 percent, all 19 other sectors witnessed gain.

The telecommunication sector surged 3.57 percent and the Metal index gained 3.21 percent. Oil & Gas rose 2.17 and Commodities added 2.01 percent. 

The overall Market breadth was positive, as the shares of 2,451 companies appreciated while those of 1,343 declined. A total of 90 companies remain unchanged.
