PM Modi congratulates Mudra Yojana beneficiaries

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday interacted with beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana at his residence, as the flagship scheme completed ten years since its launch in April 2015.

The Prime Minister congratulated the beneficiaries, highlighting how the scheme has transformed lives by turning dreams into reality. He said the initiative has empowered those who were previously overlooked and underlined that for the people of India, nothing is impossible.

Mr Modi said that the Mudra Yojana was introduced to provide financial support to countless individuals and enable them to showcase their entrepreneurial skills. He highlighted that the scheme aims to empower the youth of the country, making them self-reliant and confident, with the ability to become job creators rather than just job seekers.

The Prime Minister noted that over 70 percent of Mudra loan beneficiaries are women, and nearly half belong to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes. He described each Mudra loan as a symbol of dignity, self-respect, and opportunity.

The Prime Minister said the government will continue to strengthen the credit ecosystem so that every aspiring entrepreneur has access to opportunities for growth. He emphasized that the scheme has not only enhanced financial inclusion but also social and economic empowerment at the grassroots.

During the interaction, the beneficiaries shared their entrepreneurial experiences with the Prime Minister. One beneficiary from Rae Bareli said that the scheme had completely transformed her life. Another beneficiary from Bhopal said the scheme gave him the confidence to leave his job and start a business.

The Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana provides collateral-free loans of up to 20 lakh rupees to micro and small enterprises. In the last ten years, more than 52 crore loans worth over 32.6 lakh crore rupees have been sanctioned under the scheme.

Among states, Tamil Nadu has recorded the highest disbursal, followed by Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka. Jammu and Kashmir lead among Union Territories.

The Mudra Yojana has received international recognition as well, with the International Monetary Fund acknowledging its role in promoting inclusive entrepreneurship in India.
