CM Biplab Kumar Deb on Kok-Borok Day celebration emphasizes on NEP 2020


Agartala, Jan 19: Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Wednesday said that the National Education Policy under the able leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had opened a scope of imparting education on mother language.The Tripura on Wednesday celebrated the 44th Kok-Borok Day. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb had inaugurated the main event here at Agartala Rabindra Bhawan in presence of education minister Ratan Lal Nath.

Addressing a gathering Deb emphasised on the need to break down linguistic barriers to allow everyone to progress. Meanwhile, to commemorate the celebration of Kok-Borok Day, the Chief Minister Biplab KumarDeb on Wednesday announced the renaming of state’s ‘Gandacherra’ and ‘Atharamura hill’ in Kok-Borok dialect. He said, “Government has decided to change the name of Gandachara to Gandatuisa and Atharmura to Hachuk Berem as a mark of respect to the Kok-Borok language.”

““With an aim to popularize and promote the indigenous language, these steps were initiated. Tourists coming from outside Tripura and abroad to Dumbur Lake and Narikel Kunja, will come to know about the indigenous language of Tripura”, he added. Appreciating the research works done on indigenous languages, Tripura CM released 12 books in Kokborok language and several handbooks are being introduced till class VIII today.

He said that other publications, including the Teachers' Handbook, which debuted at the event for the first time, would play a pioneering role in promoting and teaching Kok-Borok language.Tribal Welfare minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia, MLA and Kokborok Language Development Advisory Committee chairman Dr Atul Debbarma, Education department secretary Brijesh Pandey and others were present.
