TSU demands early release of pending stipend for ST students
Aug 23, 2023The Tribal Students Union (TSU) - a students’ body of the CPI-M party on Wednesday agitated against the pending stipend for the tribal students and demanded for an early disbursement of their stipend.
A large number of the tribal students under the banner of TSU gathered in-front of the office of the Directorate of Tribal Welfare Department at Agartala to stage agitation and press for their demand.
The students who are solely dependent on their stipends to pursue their professional degree courses, are being deprived from their stipend for the last one year with prolonged delay in the disbursement of stipends, said TSU secretary Sujit Tripura. He said that over 500 ST students are being deprived of their stipends.
He however threatened to continue the TSU’s agitation until the director of the tribal welfare department assured them of disbursing the pending stipend by August this year.
