AR organizes rally on "International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking"

A mass rally was organized by Assam Rifles on Wednesday to mark the "International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking" at Agartala.

Zonal President of ARWWA Manjula Rana flagged off  the rally. A recent survey indicates that 562 cases registered and 760 drug peddlers arrested in multiple operations in the state in the last one year. Narcotic substances worth Rs 263 crore were also seized over the year. Tripura stands second in the northeast region in terms of the seizure of drugs and has the highest record of destruction of narcotic items.

This growing epidemic has prompted urgent action from various sectors, including the Assam Rifles, which has played a pivotal role in addressing the drugs menace in the state by launching their War on Drugs campaign.

A total of 350 members participated in the rally including Assam Rifles personnel, local Civilians, school children and Teachers.

The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, or World Drug Day, is marked on 26 June every year to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse. This year’s World Drug Day campaign recognizes that effective drug policies must be rooted in science, research, full respect for human rights, compassion, and a deep understanding of the social, economic, and health implications of drug use.
