For illegally establishing its infrastructure, the Bharat Ratna Sangha Club one of the largest Durga Puja organizing clubs of Agartala was demolished on Wednesday.
Earlier, the government issued a showcause notice to the club after its secretary was shot dead at point blank range on the outskirts of the city on April 30.
The District Magistrate of the West Tripura district Dr Vishal Kumar said that the building of Bharat Ratna Sangha club was demolished as the building was set up on khas land (government land). The building was demolished as per the procedures of law.
The notice, signed by estate officer of Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) office, was issued to the president and secretary of the club on July 8, asking them to remove the building within seven days or else, show reasons why the said building in the name of Bharat Ratna Club would not be removed by July 15.
