Tripura Poll: Seat sharing deal to be finalised soon with Congress – CPI(M)

With the announcement of the assembly election in Tripura, the opposition CPI(M) and the Congress party is emerging as key rivalry for the ruling BJP party, while the TIPRA Motha regional party is eyeing towards joining the oppositions’ battle to take on the BJP party.

The leaders of the CPI(M) and the Congress party held their first round of meeting on seat-sharing strategy for the ensuing assembly election on Thursday here at Agartala MLA Hostel. Left Front Convener Narayan Kar and state CPI-M Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury represented the left block while Tripura Congress president Birjit Sinha, MLA Sudip Roybarman, and senior leader Ashis Kumar Saha represented their party.

Both the parties however termed the discussions as 'fruitful and conclusive' to consolidate the anti-BJP votes, while the CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Choudhury on Thursday said, “The meeting aimed at defeating the BJP and protect the constitution, democracy, and assert the public life, which has been paralysed during the last five years.”

Choudhury said, “The seat sharing deal will be finalised soon, while the CPI(M) and the Congress party is in touch with the TIPRA Motha party. The TIPRA Motha chairman Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barma extended his support to our move of consolidating anti-BJP votes.”

On the other hand, the Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman who also joined the meeting on Thursday said, “Our move is not merely to contest and win the election, rather we are focused on building a meaningful platform of the oppositions to voice against the misrule of the BJP in Tripura.”

“We are expecting more oppositions to join our platform and defeat the BJP so as to rescue the people of this state from a very frustrated atmosphere. Our main agenda is to restore democracy in Tripura.” he told reporters.
