Women’s rights protection our govt’s priority: CM Dr. Manik Saha

The state government is giving special importance to the protection of women's rights, said Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha while speaking in inaugural ceremony of the state-wide International Women's Day celebrations programme organized by the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education at Rabindra Bhawan on Thursday.
Under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government has given special importance to improving the socio-economic status and self-empowerment of women. The state government is also working in that direction, he added.
The Chief Minister said that the government is always trying to deal with crimes related to women. A toll free 'Women Helpline' 181 has been launched in the state to ensure the protection of women and for their immediate assistance. Keeping mothers and children in mind, a plan has been taken to construct a 100-bed mother and child unit at GB Hospital. The state government has formed 53,623 self-help groups in the state under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) scheme to empower women financially.
The Chief Minister further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched many projects aimed at empowering women. The present state government has been working on the goal of women self-empowerment in the state since its inception. Girls are getting free tuition in general degree colleges of the state, he added.
Minister for Social Welfare & Social Education Tinku Roy, Secretary of Department of Social Welfare and Social Education Tapash Roy and others were also present.
