CPI(M) wants disqualification of Mabasar Ali as BJP candidate

Day after the submission of nomination paper, the opposition CPI(M) party on Tuesday demanded the returning officer of the 53-Kailasahar assembly constituency in Unakoti district to disqualify the nomination of Md. Mabasar Ali as BJP candidate.

In a letter to the returning officer on Tuesday, the CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Choudhury stated, “Being a member of the Tripura Legislative Assembly sponsored by the CPI(M), unless he resigns from the Assembly, or he is expelled by the party he may not be accepted as a member of any other party or an independent candidate.”

“Mr. Ali, a member of CPI(M) as a sitting MLA in the Assembly simultaneously may not be a Member of BJP as stated in his nomination filed before you,” the letter reads.

Choudhury further stated, “As Md. Mabashar Ali neither resigned from the house of Assembly, nor from the CPI(M), in no circumstances, he may be treated as a candidate sponsored by BJP. Hence, he may be disqualified for being a BJP candidate for want of statutory legal requirement.”

Two days after the Communist party announced its candidate list, dropping Ali and offering his seat to Congress as per the seat sharing tactics of both the parties, Ali joined the BJP at New Delhi in presence of party spokesperson Sambit Patra and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
