TRIPURA: Govt announces social pension for more 29,410 beneficiaries


In a new year bonanza, the BJP-led coalition government in Tripura announced social pension for more 29,410 beneficiaries on Saturday.

Addressing a press conference here in the conference hall of the civil secretariat, the state social welfare minister Tinku Roy announced the decision of the government for inclusion of more 29,410 beneficiaries under the social pension scheme.

He said that the new beneficiaries comprise 1,653 widows, 5,388 deserted wives, 14,197 senior citizens, 420 unmarried women, 1,946 differently-abled persons, and rest 11,194 beneficiaries of other different categories.  

“The number of social pension recipients is the highest in the state in terms of population,” he said, adding that presently 34 social pension schemes of both the Central and the state government are functioning, out of which 4 schemes are of Central government and the rest 30 are of the state government.

The minister said that the social allowance scheme is one of the flagship programmes of the state government, which aims to empower the marginalized and disadvantaged groups and improve their quality of life.
