Tripura Govt demands Centre for permanent battalion of NDRF in state: CM Dr. Manik Saha

Aiming to deal with the natural calamities in the state, the Tripura government had requested the Centre for establishment of a permanent battalion of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in Tripura, said Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday.

The statement comes up in response to the query raised by the MLA and Chief Whip Kalyani Ray here on the 4th day of the assembly session.

The Chief Minister Dr. Saha said that at present an NDRF team comprising around 50 personnel of the 1st Battalion is permanently stationed at the Central Training Institute in East Gokulnagar, in Sepahijala district of the state.

The NDRF has recently requested the Revenue Department to provide 3 acres of additional land for conversion of NDRF's Gokulnagar-based camp into a company or battalion and expansion of its perimeter, he said.

Dr. Saha further added that considering the requirement of NDRF battalion in the state, the state government requested the Centre to permanently deploy NDRF battalion in Tripura.
