Union Minister Smriti Irani takes jibe on Congress-CPI(M) understanding; says it’s a ‘sin’

The Union Minister for Child and Women Development Smriti Irani on Friday landed here at Agartala to join the first day of the BJP party’s campaign trail and took a jibe on the Congress-CPI(M) seat sharing strategy. She said, “Congress party’s seat-sharing adjustment with the CPI(M) is a sin.”

Smriti Irani was addressing a political rally at Nalchar assembly constituency under Sepahijala district.

“The Congress unit here in Tripura should ask their high command in Delhi, that what prompted the party to go for an understanding with the CPI(M) party, which killed many congress workers here,” she said.

Addressing the party gathering on Friday Smriti Irani said, “For years, the CPI(M) in Tripura instigated violence against the Congress workers and in the Nalchar area alone, 17 Congress workers were killed by the CPI(M) goons.”

While branding the assembly election as a battle to protect democracy from “Danda” politics, Smriti Irani took a jibe at the CPI(M) party on Friday and said, “The CPI(M) is the past master of Danda politics. They don’t have any respect for democracy. I want to appeal to the voters of Tripura to protect democracy and reject violence.”

A host of star campaigners of the BJP party including the party’s national president J P Nadda, party’s national executive member Mithun Chakraborty, MPs from West Bengal, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, and many others have arrived here in Agartala on Friday for the campaign.
