Submission of nomination paper ends peacefully in Tripura: CEO


Submission of nomination papers by the candidates of different political parties across the state ended peacefully amid tight security and no untoward incidents were reported so far, said Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Gitte on Monday evening.

Addressing a press conference, the CEO said, “As submission of nomination paper has ended today, we received a total of 228 nomination papers on Monday during the last day of filing of nomination papers by the candidates.”

“Earlier till January 27 last a total of 77 nomination papers were submitted. This is for the first time since 2008 that we received 228 nominations, which is the highest number ever,” the CEO told reporters.

Meanwhile, he said that adequate security arrangements were made across the state to ensure that no untoward incident take place during the time of submission of nomination papers.

“As of now that we have received the information from various districts, no untoward incident took place in the state following the submission of nomination papers,” he said.

He also said, "The election commission is working to ensure Zero-Poll violence in the state."

The last date of withdrawal of candidatures will be on February 2 next for the February 16 polls to 60-Assembly Constituencies of Tripura.
