Interactive session held on setting up of Tea Auction Centre in Tripura


As part of the initiation of the process of the state government in setting up of tea auction centre here in the state to give adequate exposure to the state’s tea, an interactive session was held here at Agartala state guest house on Tuesday with the stakeholders from Kolkata, Delhi, Jorhat and the tea sellers of South India.

The Chairman of the Tripura Tea Development Corporation Limited Chairman Santosh Saha had chaired the interactive session, organized by the department of Industry and Commerce in collaboration with Tea Board of India and TTDCL. In the beginning of the meeting, the Kolkata-based Tea Board of India Controller of Licensing Rajnigandha Shil Nashkar presented detailed information about the tea industry in Tripura through a powerpoint presentation.

Meanwhile, the TTDCL chairman Santosh Saha said that the idea of setting up a tea auction center is being considered for the purpose of marketing the tea produced in the state in the foreign market. A logo has already been created to popularize Tripura tea, he said.

“In order to make the tea of the state easily available, the state government is making it available to the public at a low price through the public distribution system,” he said, adding that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the 'Pube Shokriyo Hou' policy to give importance to the North East region, as a result, rail and air connections have been established to connect the state of Tripura with various regions of the country.

He said that it is very necessary to have a tea auction center in Tripura. “If the tea auction center is established in the state, the tea producers of the state will be benefited at large as well as the economic base of the state will be strengthened.,” he underlined.
