CM Dr. Manik Saha announces to form trust for Chaturdasha Devta temple

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday inaugurated the week-long traditional festival of Kharchi Puja and said that government is contemplating to constitute trust for the Chaturdas Devata temple like that of the Tripurasundari temple in Udaipur.

Addressing the gathering of devotees in the Chaturdas Devata temple here at Khayerpur Old Agartala, Dr. Saha said, “If there is no legal issue, we shall look into forming a trust for the Chaturdas Devata Bari as well like that of the Tripurasundari temple in Udaipur.”

“The government is working on various projects including infrastructural development of the Chaturdas Devata temple,” Dr. Saha said, adding that earlier no initiative was taken to develop the age old temple of the Chaturdas Devata.

The Kharchi Puja festival involves the worship of the fourteen gods forming the dynasty deity of the Tripuri people. The festival will last for seven consecutive days.

As per tradition, the week-long festival began with a colourful procession accompanied by the Tripura police music band. All deities and priests were escorted by Tripura Police personnel, who also presented a guard of honour to the Chief Royal Priest — Raj Chantaia.

MLA Ratan Chakraborty, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Bikash Debbarma, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder among others were present in the inaugural programme of the Kharchi Puja festival on Monday.
