India Resolute in Bringing Pahalgam Terror Attack Perpetrators to Justice: EAM Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s commitment to bringing the perpetrators of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack to justice, emphasizing the need for an uncompromising stance on issues related to terrorism, separatism, and extremism. Addressing the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) Council of Foreign Ministers in Tianjin on Tuesday evening, Dr. Jaishankar condemned the April 22 attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which he described as a deliberate attempt to destabilize the region's tourism economy and create a religious divide.

The attack in Pahalgam, which left several people dead, has sparked widespread outrage in India, with the United Nations Security Council also condemning it in the strongest terms. Dr. Jaishankar, recalling the global condemnation, stressed the necessity of holding those responsible—whether perpetrators, organizers, financiers, or sponsors—accountable for the heinous act.

"India will continue its efforts to bring the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack to justice," Dr. Jaishankar said, underlining the government's unwavering commitment to combat terrorism and ensure that such acts of violence do not disrupt the socio-economic fabric of the region.

In his address, Dr. Jaishankar also highlighted the current state of international affairs, citing growing economic instability and the urgent need for deeper collaboration among member countries of the SCO. He emphasized that regional cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, and exchanges, was essential to fostering mutual growth.

India, he noted, has taken several initiatives within the SCO aimed at strengthening ties in diverse sectors, including innovation, digital infrastructure, and traditional medicine. However, he also pointed out the lack of assured transit within the SCO space, which, he argued, undermines the organization's ability to fully realize its economic potential.

Dr. Jaishankar also underscored the importance of promoting projects like the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), which is seen as a critical initiative for improving connectivity and facilitating smoother trade routes between India, Iran, Russia, and other Central Asian countries.
