In a gesture of continued friendship and cross-border goodwill, the Government of Bangladesh on Thursday gifted 300 kilograms of its famous Haribhanga mangoes to the Chief Minister of Tripura and other state dignitaries.
The consignment, packed in 60 cartons, was sent through the Akhaura land port around 5:15 PM and was received by officials of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala.
The mangoes were sent on behalf of Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, and arranged by the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with an authorized fruit exporter.
This annual exchange is part of a longstanding tradition of seasonal gift-giving between Bangladesh and the Indian state of Tripura. In return, the Tripura government reciprocates with shipments of its renowned Queen variety pineapples—a sweet and juicy fruit popular across the region.
Beyond the mango-pineapple exchange, Bangladesh also allows the seasonal export of Hilsa fish to India, particularly during Durga Puja, as a mark of goodwill and cultural camaraderie.
Officials on both sides have welcomed the exchange, emphasizing that such gestures strengthen people-to-people connections and reinforce friendly bilateral ties between the neighboring regions.
