Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik resigns as MLA


After securing a landslide victory against her CPI(M) counterpart from Dhanpur assembly constituency in the recently concluded assembly election, the Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik resigned as MLA on Wednesday.

Bhoumk, who secured 42.25 votes in this election against her counterpart Kaushik Chanda handed over her resignation with the newly inducted pro-tem speaker of the assembly Binay Bhushan Das. Bhoumik was accompanied by Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare minister Ratan Lal Nath.

After resigning from MLA post Bhoumik on Wednesday said that on the advice of her party leadership, she tendered her resignation from the post of MLA in Dhanpur seat.

“The BJP central leadership had directed me to contest in the Dhanpur assembly constituency despite being a member of Lok Sabha and Union Minister of State,” she added.
