Tripura starts selling dairy products through ration shops


To promote dairy farming and ensure access to nutritious dairy products for the citizens of Tripura, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday inaugurated dairy products of Merchandising Gomati Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Limited here at Agartala for distribution through ration shops.

Addressing the gathering in the inauguration programme, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said that the initiative has been taken as part of the government’s commitment to strengthen the state’s Public Distribution System (PDS).

Government has made an agreement with the Gomati dairy firm for distribution of the dairy products including Ice Cream, Curd, Paneer and Ghee through at least 15 ration shops here in the capital town of Agartala and surrounding areas primarily from Friday.

Initially, a selective number of ration shops have been identified for the implementation of this pilot project, with plans to gradually expand coverage to other ration shops across the state in subsequent phases.

State food and civil supplies minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Minister Sukla Charan Noatia, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder and others were present in the inauguration programme.
