CM called on media to work on curbing drug menace
Jan 17, 2022Agartala, Jan 17: Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Monday called upon the media fraternity of the state for constructive and quality news in forming public opinion.The Chief Minister had said this while launching a private run news channel here at Agartala. Deb said that the scope and positive atmosphere of the media has been created during the tenure of the present government. Speaking on the occasion, the he said that the importance of media in eradicating evil activities like prohibited drugs is immense. He called on the media to work on this issue on a priority basis.
The Chief Minister said that the government was working on the basis of importance to protect the youth community from the ill effects of drugs. In addition, it is necessary to bring to the notice of the relevant authorities any information related to the smuggling of illicit drugs, trade or sale in the vicinity of educational institutions. Infections such as HIV are spreading among the youth as a result of the use of certain drugs. The Chief Minister said that just as people expect quality performance in running the government, it is also important to provide quality news.
Deb said that quality news is helpful in forming public opinion. The media has a special role to play in eradicating various social ills through proper public awareness.The Chief Minister further said that at present the people of the state are confident and have a positive attitude to do something. Self-reliant entrepreneurs are paving the way for others to generate income. The benefits of various projects are being passed on to all the beneficiaries by overcoming the narrowness of the party, he said.
He claimed that transparency has come in the selection of qualified persons in all fields starting from recruitment. As a result of timely and proper management of the state government, women have found a new direction of earning. On the one hand, as the number of self-help groups has increased significantly, so has the financial prosperity and earning opportunities of women, Deb said.
