Jun 16, 2025
Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Monday emphasized the importance of creating durable assets to accelerate rural development across the state. He said this while chairing the first meeting of the Tripura State Employment Guarantee Council for the financial year 2025–26, held at the Secretariat's Conference Room No. 2.
The Chief Minister stated that the primary goal of the state government is to uplift the socio-economic conditions of people living in remote and marginalized regions. To ensure that developmental initiatives effectively reach grassroots beneficiaries, the government is working with a clear, strategic approach.
He highlighted that the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) plays a pivotal role in driving rural economic growth, especially since a majority of Tripura’s population resides in rural areas. The government, he said, is focused on ensuring that MGNREGA not only provides employment but also leads to the creation of sustainable infrastructure.
The Chief Minister urged District Magistrates, Block Development Officers, and other administrative officials to maintain close coordination with local elected representatives during the implementation of development projects. He also stressed the importance of regularly updating public representatives on the progress of these works and maintaining the quality of execution through constant monitoring.
"If any challenges arise during implementation, they must be promptly brought to the attention of local leaders and resolved without delay," Dr. Saha added.
The meeting was attended by Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Cooperative Minister Sukla Charan Noatia, Science and Technology Minister Animesh Debbarma, and several MLAs including Kishore Barman, Antara Sarkar Deb, Swapna Majumdar, Shambhulal Chakma, and Mailaiya Mog. MDC Sanjib Reang, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Secretary of Rural Development Abhishek Singh, and district magistrates from all eight districts were also present.
