Tripura is moving towards to become a full-fledged organic state. The area under organic farming has increased substantially. Asserting that organic farming will be a game changer for the welfare of farmers, said Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath during a visit to the Tuibangma Organic Producer Company Limited in the North Bodhjungnagar area of the Lefunga Agri Subdivision on Saturday. The Minister also formally handed over the company’s operational license during his visit. Executive Member of the Public Works Department (P.W.D & R.D.) Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Runiel Debbarma, was also present.
Currently, pineapple cultivation is being carried out organically on in 2 hectares of land in the region. In a further boost to modern agriculture, a live demonstration of drone technology in farming was also conducted during the event. Organic farming is now practiced over 120 hectares (approximately 720 kani) of land in the area, involving nearly 500 farmers. He emphasized that there were no FPCs in Tripura before the BJP government and that the state now proudly hosts 40 registered FPCs, empowering local farmers and encouraging organic, eco-friendly agricultural methods, the Minister stated.
The government is committed to transforming tribal areas into hubs for organic cultivation, leveraging technology and cooperative farming models to uplift rural livelihoods, he added.
