Tripura observes National Press Day


Agartala, Nov 16: Tripura along with the rest of the nation on Saturday observed the National Press Day. The state sports and youth affairs minister Tinku Roy has inaugurated the programme here at Agartala Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in presence of High Court Justice Arindam Lodh, President of Agartala Press Club Jayanta Bhattacharjee, veteran journalist Sekhar Dutta, Secretary of the ICA department P K Chakraborty and Director of ICA Bimbishwar Bhattacharjee.

Addressing the gathering the Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy mainly focused on the theme of this year’s National Press Day celebration “Changing Nature of Press” and highlighted manpower shortages and economic challenges. Roy also mentioned the plight of tea gardens in the state, saying, “Fifty-six tea gardens are on the verge of closure due to a lack of workers. This is a stark reminder of the broader challenges impacting our economy.”

Meanwhile, justice Arindam Lodh in his address stressed on participation of youths in shaping the media landscape. He said that the press has undergone significant changes, particularly with the advent of artificial intelligence. It is crucial to remain vigilant in distinguishing truth from falsehood amidst this rapid transformation, he added.
