Bangladeshi woman who imprisoned in Assam jail gives birth to a child


A Bangladeshi woman who imprisoned for last few months in a jail on charges of illegally entered into India, has given birth to a child at a government-run hospital in Assam’s Karimganj district. According to the reports, the woman identified as Chandni Sheikh, a resident of Dhaka in Bangladesh was arrested by police at Badarpur railway station few months back.

Two days back, when the Bangladeshi woman experienced labour pain, the jail authority admitted her at Karimganj civil hospital and she gave birth to a child at the hospital on October 17. Dr Lipi Deb Sinha, Superintendent of Karimganj civil hospital said that, the Bangladeshi woman who imprisoned in jail, was admitted at Karimganj civil hospital in term pregnancy condition.

“She along with other family members went to Mumbai in search of work and when they were returning from Mumbai on the way Bangladesh, police arrested her and other people at Badarpur railway station. She was admitted at the hospital in term pregnancy condition and the Gyneocologist of our hospital had decided to conduct an emergency operation. The woman has given birth to a child at our hospital,” Dr Lipi Deb Sinha said.

According to the officials, the woman along with other family members entered into India from Tripura side without valid documents and went to Mumbai in search of work and when they were returning from Mumbai on the way to Bangladeshi police caught them at Badarpur railway station few months back.
