Awareness rally ahead of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking held in Agartala


In observance of the upcoming International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, a vibrant awareness rally was held on Monday in Agartala. The event was organized by the West Tripura District Administration in collaboration with the Directorate of Social Education.

The rally attracted enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, government officials, and members of civil society, all united in promoting a drug-free society. Participants carried placards and banners and raised slogans to highlight the dangers of drug abuse and the urgent need to curb illicit drug trafficking.

Speaking at the event, Tinku Roy, Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports, Social Welfare & Social Education, and Labour, emphasized the importance of raising public awareness, particularly among the youth, about the harmful effects of narcotic substances. He urged the community to take collective action against drug-related issues.

Minister Roy highlighted the crucial role of education and continuous awareness campaigns in combating the global challenge of drug abuse. He called for sustained community involvement to build a safer and healthier society.

The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed annually on June 26, is recognized by the United Nations as a day to strengthen global action and cooperation in the fight against drug abuse worldwide.
