Weekend tourist hub soon at Agartala


Aiming to grow the capital town of Agartala as a major attraction for the tourists, the Tripura government has decided to build a weekend tourist hub centring the Ujjayanta Palace, said tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference here in the conference hall of the civil secretariat, the minister said that the decision of building the weekend tourist hub has been taken in the cabinet meeting. The weekend tourist hub will be open on every Saturday and Sunday from 4 pm to 9 pm, he told reporters.

The weekend tourist hub will have dhabas, food stalls, selfie points and boating facility for the tourists on the Rajbari lake, he said, adding that the initiative of building the weekend tourist hub will generate employment opportunities for the youths and the artists of the state.

He said that a permanent stage will be built up infront of the Palace, where the visiting tourists can enjoy the taste of various cultural programme on Saturday and Sunday of every week.  The road from Lakshminarayan Bari to Rabindra Bhavan Chowmuhani and from the park in front of Ujjayanta Palace to the Jackson Gate will be declared as no-entry zone on every Saturday and Sunday from 4 pm to 9 pm to ease the tourists, he further added.

On the other hand, the minister on Thursday informed that the government has decided to make recruitment for various posts under the Directorate of Land Records and Settlement of the state revenue department. He said at least 146 persons including Assistant Surveyor Officers, Kanungo, Amin and land surveyor. The recruitment will be done through the TPSC while the posts of Amin and Surveyor will be recruited through the Department, he added. 

He however informed that the second session of the 13th Tripura legislative Assembly session will commence from July 7 next.
