ECI allows journalists in Tripura to cast vote through postal ballot

For the first time in the state of Tripura, the Election Commission of India has allowed the journalists with authority letter to cast vote through postal ballot for the Lok Sabha election this year.

The Joint Director of Information and Cultural Affairs department in an official notification on Wednesday last stated, “For coverage of Poll day activities , interested Media persons (to whom Authority letters have been issued) to cast votes through postal ballots under Essential Service category, can submit filled up Form 12 D with photocopy of the (i) issued Authority letter and (ii) Voters’ Photo Identity card in respective ARO office up to 13th April , 2024.”

Meanwhile, the Additional CEO of the state election commission confirmed this and said that journalists only with the authority letter for election coverage will have a choice of casting their vote through postal ballot. He also informed that the State Election Commission has authorised the ICA department to deal with this.
