National School U-17 Yoga Competition to begin from Nov 23


Tripura to host 5-day long 67th National School Under-17 Yoga competition. The competition will begin from November 23 and will last till November 27 next here in the indoor stadium of Netaji Subhas Regional Sports Training Centre (NSRCC) at Agartala.

Addressing a press conference here at the civil secretariat on Wednesday, the state sports and youth affairs minister Tinku Roy said that more than 500 contestants from different parts of the country will participate in the competition.

At least 351 players from 18 states and 3 Union Territories have registered their names. Out of this, 174 people are in the boy category and 177 people are in the girl category, he said, adding that the national school sports under-17 football and gymnastics competitions were held in the state earlier.

He said that this is the first time that the competition in yoga events is going to be held. The judges of this competition will come from outside the state, he told reporters.

Secretary of the sports department Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty said that the Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha will inaugurate the competition of the 67th National School Sports Under 17 Yoga event on Thursday.
