Tripura's Padma Shri awardee and Rosem maestro Thanga Darlong passes away

Tripura’s Rosem player and Padma Shri awardee Thanga Darlong passed away at the age of 103 at his residence at Maruibari ADC village in Kailasahar in Unakoti district of the state on Sunday.

Darlong had been bedridden for the last few days due to age-related ailments and was hospitalised on November 14 last in Unakoti district hospital.

Son of late Darlong, Sumaiah Darlong said that Thanga Darlong was ill for a long and following the deterioration of his health condition, he was admitted to the Unakoti district hospital, but his health condition did not improve till November 27. Later he was brought back to his residence on November 28, he told reporters.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha paid his condolences and wrote on his X social media handle, “I am deeply saddened by the passing away of legendary Rosem player Padma Shri Thanga Darlong. With his passing away, an irreparable void has been created in the cultural world of the state. My condolences to all the bereaved and bereaved of this jewel of the state. May God give all the loved ones the strength to bear this loss and may the departed soul rest in peace.”
