Opposition misleading Durga Puja’s PDS for poor: Minister Sushanta Chowdhury

Soon after the opposition CPI-M in its recent social media page castigated the government over distributing blank canvas bags and said that government was supposed to distribute PDS items free of cost, the state food and civil supplies minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Wednesday said that some groups are misleading the people of this state with the government’s initiative of distributing food items ahead of the Durga Puja festival and most importantly first ever distribution of mustard oil through PDS.

Addressing a press conference here in the conference hall of the civil secretariat this afternoon, the minister said, “As announced the department previously, government started distribution of various food items and mustard oil through PDS at subsidized rate only and in addition to this as was initiated government is also distributing canvas bag free of cost through PDS.”

“Unable to digest the initiative of the government for the poor families ahead of this festive season, some are simply misleading the people to make a malign campaign against the government,” he told reporters.

He said, “Government never announced to distribute food items through PDS free of cost. Moreover, the allegation of distribution of blank canvas bags is false as the food items are being distributed with the canvas bag only from the ration shops.”

He said, “Unlike the previous government the present government took the initiative for the first time to distribute mustard oil through PDS at subsidised rate, which perhaps was never initiated before during the time of previous government.”
