Tripura Govt demands centre to waive off service charge from prepaid auto rickshaw in MBB airport

To enhance connectivity from the Agartala MBB airport, the Tripura government is mulling to run 4-wheeler pre-paid taxi service from the airport in addition to the operational prepaid auto rickshaw service.

This has come up in a letter of the state transport and tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury to the Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.

The minister on Monday wrote a letter to Scindia seeking the intervention of the Union Ministry to waive off service charge levied by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) on prepaid auto rickshaw.

“You are aware that there are financial constraints in the state of Tripura and the socio-economic condition of the people of the state is not so good. Therefore, it is not possible for the Auto Rickshaw drivers to sustain their livelihood after paying a high rate of service charge levied by AAI,” the letter reads.

In his letter the minister further stated, “The Director of MtsB Airport, AAI was also requested to take up the matter with appropriate authority of AAI for completely waiving off the services for greater interest of the State, AAI and air passengers as there is no policy to levy service charges from prepaid auto rickshaw.”

“It may be kindly noted here that the Transport Department is very shortly going to start prepaid Taxi (4-wheelerf services from MBB Airport and at that time the AAI Authority may levy service charge @Rs.3O/- per taxi,” he mentioned in the letter.
