The government's face burned again in the high court
Sep 21, 2022An end to the long-standing deprivation of the Jute mill workers. After a long fight, the High Court announced the verdict on Wednesday. Later, in a press conference, lawyer Purushottam Roy Barman said that Tripura jute mill workers were deprived of salary for a long time. Later the Jute Mill Officers Association of Tripura filed a case in the High Court. In that case, the then Gowahati High Court judge had asked Tripura Jute mill officers to implement the fourth salary allowance from 1996 as recommended. Later, the jute mill workers' union filed a case. Then Justice Ajay Rastri in a landmark judgment on September 17, 2018 said that the state government had committed deprivation in the case of Tripura jute mill employees. In their case also, the pay scale has to be revised from 1st January 1996. And all arrears of salary must be settled.
The state government appealed to the Division Bench of the High Court against the verdict. Now this case is being heard in that division bench. Chief Justice Indrajit Mahanti and Justice SG Chatterjee delivered the verdict in the court today. Three writ appeals were dismissed in Govt. As a result, the government has to revise the salaries of the jute mill workers from January 1, 1996. And from that time onwards, they have to pay their financial benefits, said lawyer Purushottam Roy Barman. He also said that the state government wanted to appeal and said that there was no deprivation of jute workers in Tripura state. But the High Court dismissed their appeal. Jute employees are happy with this. Later, the jute mill workers marched out of the Tripura High Court, happy with the High Court's verdict.
