Flash floods force 45,000 people into evacuation centres in Philippines

In the Philippines, flash floods after two days of heavy rains in the country forced roughly 45,000 people into evacuation centres.

Authorities said that the search is on for the missing 23 people. Most of the deaths were caused by drowning from flash floods.

Images on social media show coast guard, police and fire personnel wading through waist-deep floods and carrying residents along landslide-hit areas. Some roads were flooded by overflowing rivers nearby.

Rescue operations continued and damage to agriculture and livestock are being assessed.
