Manipur Police launch manhunt following deadly ambush in Churachandpur

Security forces in Manipur have launched an intensive manhunt after a deadly ambush in Churachandpur district claimed four lives on Monday.

The attack took place near Mongjang village, about five kilometers from Churachandpur town, at around 2 p.m. The ambush targeted three individuals traveling in a car; all three were killed on the spot. Additionally, a 72-year-old woman passing through the area was struck by a stray bullet and later died en route to the Churachandpur District Hospital.

An FIR has been registered, and security has been heightened across the district to prevent further violence, according to a statement from the Manipur Police.

The banned militant group, United Kuki National Army (UKNA), has claimed responsibility for the attack. Reports indicate that the UKNA targeted members of another Kuki armed group, which had signed a peace agreement with the government back in 2008. Authorities continue their search for the perpetrators as tensions remain high in the region.
