In yet another significant decision of the cabinet of BJP-led coalition government in Tripura, free ration will be disbursed to at least 9.83 lakh families in the state of Tripura ahead of the festive season.

Addressing a press conference here in the conference hall of the civil secretariat on Friday, the state food and civil supplies minister Sushanta Chowdhury said that the state cabinet has decided to give 2 kg of flour, 1 kg of sugar, and 500 grams of semolina (suji) for free of cost to 9.83 lakh ration cardholders ahead of the Durga Puja festival.

The minister said that consumers will be able to avail this facility in the first week of October. Previously, the government used to sell these items at subsidised rates but this time it will be given to the ration card holders for free in view of the recent deadly flood in Tripura, he added.
