Tripura seeks special grant from 16th Finance Commission for infrastructure development in TTAADC

In a crucial meeting held on Monday in New Delhi, under the initiative of the 16th Finance Commission, the Finance Minister of Tripura, Pranjit Singh Roy, raised a series of key demands for the state's overall development and infrastructure improvement. Among the issues discussed, the Minister emphasized the urgent need for infrastructure development in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and called for a special grant from the Finance Commission to support the comprehensive development of the ADC region.

Minister Pranjit Singh Roy highlighted the state's infrastructural deficiencies, especially the disruptions caused during the monsoon season affecting road and rail connectivity, and urged the Finance Commission to allocate additional funds to address these challenges. He further appealed for 20% of the funds to be allocated to forestry and ecology, emphasizing the importance of environmental preservation alongside development.

Additionally, the Minister made a case for special funding to support the growth of agriculture, fisheries, small and medium-sized industries, and the tourism sector in Tripura. He presented the state’s development plans and requested the Commission to consider providing adequate financial assistance to overcome the state's infrastructural challenges.

In his address, the Finance Minister also discussed the need for creating special grants for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, underlining the importance of this initiative for the region's overall development. Another key demand was for an increase in funding for the state's fisheries sector, aiming to boost fish production and develop the necessary infrastructure for this industry.

The meeting also touched upon other critical issues facing the state, such as drug trafficking. Minister Pranjit Singh Roy emphasized the need to deploy additional police forces along the border areas to combat the growing menace of cross-border drug smuggling.

Moreover, the Finance Minister pointed out that the economic and revenue systems of Tripura heavily rely on trade and commerce between India and Bangladesh. He raised concerns about the political instability in Bangladesh, which has been affecting the state's socio-economic development. He also mentioned how this instability has hindered the potential growth of medical tourism in the region.
