TIPRA Motha to organise mass rally at Agartala over 'Greater Tipra Land' demand

Agartala, March 02: To intensify their demand of ‘Greater Tipra Land’, the ruling Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) Motha in TTAADC on Wednesday announced that the party shall organize a mass rally here at Agartala Swami Vivekananda Ground on March 12.

The TIPRA Motha chief Maharaja Pradyot Kishore Deb Burman on Wednesday addressed a press conference and at Agartala Ujjayanta Palace and said, “Greater Tipra Land’ is a constitutional right of the indigenous tribes of the state and this is a demand of both Bengal and indigenous tribes of Tripura.”

“The demand of Greater Tipra Land is not against any community or neither is it to deprive the rights of the people of any community,” Pradyot said. On being asked if TIPRA Motha would be permitted to hold the rally, Pradyot replied saying, “It would then raise the question whether the indigenous tribes of the state have rights in Agartala. The party had asked the administration for permission regarding the mass rally on March 12.”

He demanded for an early completion of the long-pending village council elections and replied to the media that until there is no alignment of political ideology with any political party, the TIPRA Motha would contest independently during the coming elections in the state.
