BJP SC Morcha leader attacked ahead of poll; condition critical

Ahead of the assembly election, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s SC Morcha leader was stabbed brutally on his face and left critically injured by miscreants on Tuesday morning.

The injured BJP leader was identified as Suman Das and he belongs to the assembly constituency of the former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb. He was immediately rushed to the GBP hospital with sharp cuts and multiple injuries on his face.

Police said, “One Suman Das was attacked this morning by a sharp cutting weapon in the Aralia area, Agartala. He could identify and share the names of two attackers during treatment. Both of them have been arrested. Prima facie it is a case of business rivalry. Patrolling has been intensified.”

Alarmed by the incident, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha accompanied by assembly speaker Ratan Chakraborty and other party activists visited the hospital to meet the injured leader. The former Chief Minister and presently the Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb also visited the injured party leader.

Expressing concern over the incident on Tuesday morning, the Chief Minister held the Congress and the CPI(M) responsible for it. He said, “Such violence used to happen before we came to power. To get rid of this, people voted us to power. Now, those miscreants allied with the CPM to destroy law and order. The Election Commission will look into it and we shall bring the matter to their attention.”

Meanwhile, the former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said, “The names of the miscreants have been mentioned in the FIR and nobody shall be spared.”
