CM Dr. Manik Saha checks preparedness as IMD predicts heavy rainfall, thunderstorm


As the IMD predicted heavy rain and thunderstorm in the state of Tripura on October 24 during the festival of Diwali, the administration took series of measures with the District Magistrates of the eight districts of the state are asked to alert the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), fire services and trained volunteers to remain ready to tackle any situation. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday chaired a high-level review meeting with the officials of all the line departments here at the secretariat and discussed the measures taken and also passed necessary instructions to administration.

The NDRF has been requested to depute additional 5 teams for deployment in the State immediately. It is expected to deploy them in Kumarghat, Teliamura, Agartala, Udaipur and Santirbazar. As part of the measures taken by the administration, leaves of all officials have been cancelled for next one week and schools and educational institutions will be closed for three days from 24 to 26 October.Relief camps are advised to be notified, relief materials to be arranged in advance. The chief minister mainly focused on monitoring of river flows, embankments and catchment areas and taking immediate preventive and preparedness measures.

Directions are passed to keep operating pumps ready for extraction of flood water in inundated areas and to prepare to evacuate affected people from low-lying areas to safe places along with provision of relief. Meanwhile, as the state is celebrating Diwali festival on October 24, proper precautionary measures are ensured in regard to Diwali Mela at Matabari in Udaipur. All key line departments including Power, PWD, RD, Health etc. have been advised to visit the Matabari temple and reconfirm the arrangements. Health teams to be increased and safety measures to be ensured at exit points for Diwali Mela at Matabari. Special trains for 24 & 25 will be cancelled to avoid crowding at Mela.
