Tripura celebrates Rath Yatra with devotion and festive spirit
Jun 27, 2025The auspicious festival of Rath Yatra was celebrated across Tripura on Friday with immense enthusiasm and deep religious fervor. Lakhs of devotees participated in the celebrations, marking Lord Jagannath's annual ceremonial journey to his aunt's house.
In Agartala, the state capital, the streets came alive as throngs of devotees chanted "Jai Jagannath" and "Hare Krishna," eager to catch a glimpse of the revered deities. Many climbed onto rooftops and balconies as elaborately decorated chariots carrying the idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balaram, and Goddess Subhadra rolled through the city.
The main procession began in the afternoon from the premises of the historic Jagannath Temple in Agartala. Devotees enthusiastically pulled the chariots through major roads under strict security arrangements made by the administration to ensure a smooth and incident-free celebration.
One of the highlights of the festival was the grand chariot procession organized by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Agartala. The event drew thousands of participants, cutting across social, economic, and religious lines, showcasing the inclusive spirit of the festival.
The entire state witnessed similar celebrations, with local temples and organizations organizing smaller processions and devotional gatherings. Authorities maintained necessary regulations and crowd control measures to ensure public safety during the massive gatherings.
Rath Yatra, celebrated across India, particularly in Puri, Odisha, commemorates Lord Jagannath’s annual visit to the Gundicha Temple, believed to be the home of his aunt. In Tripura, the festival has grown into a major cultural and religious event, reflecting the state’s rich spiritual traditions and community harmony.
