Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold high-level talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brasília on Tuesday, with a focus on boosting economic cooperation and deepening strategic ties between the two nations.
The meeting comes as part of Mr. Modi’s official state visit to Brazil, following his participation in the 17th BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro. The discussions between the two leaders are expected to cover a wide range of sectors including trade, defence, energy, space, technology, agriculture, health, and people-to-people ties.
According to India’s Ambassador to Brazil, Dinesh Bhatia, both countries are likely to sign four key agreements during the visit, further strengthening their bilateral partnership.
Upon his arrival in Brasília last night, Prime Minister Modi received a vibrant welcome at the airport, featuring a traditional Samba Reggae performance by the renowned Batala Mundo band. In a social media post, he praised the band's music as a global effort to celebrate Afro-Brazilian culture.
The Indian diaspora in Brazil also turned out in large numbers to greet the Prime Minister, who expressed gratitude for their warm reception. Calling it a “memorable welcome,” Mr. Modi lauded the community for maintaining strong ties with their Indian heritage.
The India–Brazil partnership has seen growing momentum in recent years, particularly within the BRICS framework and through increasing bilateral engagements.
Following the conclusion of his Brazil visit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to travel to Namibia, marking the final leg of his five-nation tour.
