Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma says final list of NRC is not published
Feb 12, 2024Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the final list of the National Register of Citizens, NRC is not published. He said that as per the Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules 2023, RGI has the power to publish the final NRC list. Replying to a question in assembly today, he mentioned that the Assam government hasn't filed any affidavit to verify the NRC. On the issue of put on hold of nearly 27 lakh people's Aadhar card, Mr. Sarma informed that the matter has been brought to the notice of the Centre and likely to get some solutions soon. He asserted that government is trying to resolve the issue. He further mentioned that there are nearly 97 thousand Doubtful voters in the state. The Chief Minister also stated that from 1997 to 2023, over 89 thousand Doubtful voters have been removed from the Electoral Rolls.
